10.06.08I have a bunch of new work to put up, but I'm going to redesign the site soon. I am going to have some more categories and a more user-friendly gallery type setup. Be on the lookout!
01.17.08 Wow! New Years came and went like a flash... this year flew by! I suppose I need an obligatory new year's resolution, so what's better than a plan to shoot more? It never seems to be enough. More specifically, I'm planning on working on a few long term projects which should prove to be a lot of fun. I think a lot of beautiful images will come out of that as well. Keep checking back for more updates- I have a lot of new images ready to be put up any day now!
Also, last month I shot a gift guide for Bust Magazine and I saw that it's out on newstands now. It's the Feb/March issue with Eve on the cover. Go check it out!
10.25.07 After fighting off an insane cold (I haven't been sick in years!), I finally added those images I've been meaning to put up. Four new images in the Portfolio section are now up and ready to be seen!
10.10.07 Yet another long time has passed since an update, but my time has indeed been well spent in the meantime. I have since moved my business to Brooklyn about a month and a half ago and am enjoying it immensely. I have new images in my portfolio section and am currently planning a major overhaul in the display of my images on my website. I plan to showcase a wider variety of images and hope to be able to convey more of my interests to my viewers via sheer volume. Long overdue images will be up within the next day or so to view, so come back and check them out.
06.22.07 Wow, a lot has been happening and I hadn't updated. Well, first thing thing. Last month I photographed Nicole Atkins for D Magazine. I was floored when I was asked to shoot her because I'm a big fan of her music. I was really excited to meet and photograph such an accomplished musician- she's still in her 20's and is on Columbia Records. She's played huge festivals like SXSW and was also on the Rolling Stone Top 10 Artists to Watch for 2007. Even without all the fame, she was a super cool person to meet and really fun to photograph.
More recently, and also for D Magazine, I photographed Doug Ferrari; the owner of a fairly new art gallery in Long Branch, NJ. The gallery has really beautiful work and a pretty varied collection from artists all over the country. The thing I loved about the gallery was that it was the perfect size. It wasn't huge, but utilized the space extremely well and had a sufficient amount of work. After I left the shoot, I couldn't help but realize that New Jersey needs more art galleries.
04.28.07 I started a few long-term projects and began shooting some images for them. Here's a little teaser into what some new photos will look like:
1. "The Yard Sale" - That's sort of self-explanatory, but I'm focusing on the proprietors of such wonderful sales. I secretly love yard sales, so this is a nice excuse to go to some more... and buy stuff I probably don't need.
2. "Unconventional Pets" - The name sort of says it all. I'm going to try and make some interesting portraits of the pets and their owners. So far I have some pretty wild stuff lined up. I'd tell you, but I don't want to spoil the surprises.
3. "Metal For Life" - This series will focus on the lifestyle of fans of heavy metal music. The metal scene is a lot bigger than people think and I want to show this through fun pictures of metalheads. I am familiar with the crowd, so this should be a lot of fun. I know there are some pretty cool stuff to be shot, so this should produce some great results.
04.12.07 So I decided that some new images are in order. I've been in the midst of a promotion binge lately, so that's been taking up some time. I have a hankering to break out the cameras again and start taking some new pictures. The RB is hopefully going to see the light of day again. It's been packed away in its case for the past few months since I have my digital on me all the time now. I'm planning on photographing some really colorful characters. Over the past few weeks I've been writing down ideas for people to photograph. I had to put them on paper for fear of my brain exploding.
04.06.07 For my birthday yesterday I decided to meet up with some old friends in the city. I went in and had a great time. One thing I learned from this was how much the digital revolution has changed everyone (well, more than I anticipated). I bought my 5D in November and haven't shot a single roll of film since. I realize that I'm going into withdrawal. Don't get me wrong- I love digital and whatnot- but I miss holding freshly processed film in my hands. Sometimes I turn off the lights and switch on my light box... for old time's sake!
02.22.07 Yesterday I went out to Long Island to meet up with and photograph Waking Ashland for Immortal Records. They came out to New York for their first few days of their tour and had asked for me to photograph them. I was so excited to meet them- they're such a great band. They're a really great bunch of guys, too- we had so much fun on the shoot that I had a hard time leaving. Images will be up soon!
12.08.06 Last week I shot the band Bedlight For Blue Eyes for the NJ-based D Magazine. I was really excited to finally meet and photograph them. The shoot went really well and I got a chance to hang out with them afterwards. They had me laughing all night; they're a really fun group of guys. Check them out on tour if you get the chance.
ALSO: check out my interview on RedBankGreen.com in connection with this shoot!
11.27.06 Wow, it's been a while since the last post. I've been revamping my print portfolio and whatnot. I have also been scheduling a bunch of shoots lately and am really excited about those. Details (and images) to come. Stay tuned.
07.28.06 So I got to meet and photograph one of my all-time favorite bands: Murder By Death. I shot them before their set at Maxwell's in Hoboken the other night. And let me tell you: they're probably the nicest group of people I've ever met. I heard them for the first time about three years ago and thought their music was absolutely amazing. If you haven't heard them yet, they just released a new album: In Bocco Al Lupo. Check them out.
07.04.06 Happy 4th of July! Right now, I'm working on some images from a shoot I did a week or so ago. I photographed Karmacy and Sandeep who are on the Los Angeles-based Rukus Avenue Records. I was really excited to do the shoot and I had even more fun than expected. They're such great people over there at Rukus Ave.
05.30.06 I am now officially graduated from RIT! Right now, I'm finally updating my images as I mentioned in the previous post. It took me a while to get all the images prepped, but I'm glad it's finally done. Now I can go shoot more!
05.01.06 I went on a quite possibly the largest photographic shooting spree of my life this weekend. I photographed more images that I can remember. I'm scanning and working on a large number of images right now. Be sure to check back soon for some fresh work (and lots of it)!
04.10.06 I just returned from a week-long trip to New York City. I have plenty of updating to do; more images are sure to be up soon. I also have plenty of new ideas for photographs. We'll see how they turn out.
03.28.06 There are a bunch of new features on the site. Kevin and I are working out the kinks (well... Kevin really; he's awesome), so bear with us. Sorry for any hangups.
03.21.06 MICHAELMARMORA.COM has arrived! The site came out great. Even better than I imagined it. I love it. My good friend Kevin did a killer job on it (since my web skills are pretty terrible- and his are pretty amazing). Check back soon for updates.
